如果要形容他的音乐，极简主义，另类古典、气围感重，现代都是适合的形容词，却不能轻易将之归类定型为某一类别。他本人为自己的音乐作了最好的结论：「有一些是来自古典，但在生命中实在有太大影响著我的音乐，当中包括非洲音乐，民谣和摇滚等等。」

Einaudi的音乐红遍世界各地，尤其在英国及他的家乡意大利，专辑经常登上销售榜的前列，销售成绩媲美流行音乐的专辑，而早前於英国著名音乐厅Albert Hall的演出门票火速售罄。Einaudi的另一个身份是YouTube红人，单一MV的点击率最高达到二百万以上的七位数字，足见他被受欢迎的程度，早前为配合'In A Time Lapse'推出，在YouTube分享了一个长达一个多小时的音乐录像，别开生面之处是在他家中进行录影，拉近与乐迷之间的距离。许多乐迷对他的音乐为之著迷，是故在乐谱销量方面又是一堆惊人数字。

这张大碟特地远赴位於意大利北部Verona一所远离烦嚣的修道院进行录音，整个过程中Einaudi及乐队全程投入，高度专注带来纯净的效果。音乐方面，除了有Einaudi的签名式钢琴独奏，还加入电子、敲击，弦乐队合奏，展示丰富多元化的一面，当中四首作品特地请来著名小提琴家Daniel Hope参与的小提琴演奏部分。

有关Ludovico Einaudi:

1955年出生於义大利Turin，其家族经营一所著名的出版社，祖父曾经在40、50年代从政，Einaudi选择了一条不一样的人生道路。从小开始学习钢琴，在米兰的威尔第音乐学院毕业，主修作曲。随后以传统的方式为创作方向，直到80年代中，开拓另类的个人风格，奉行简约美学，为舞蹈及多媒体剧场等创作音乐。音乐风格逐渐走向冥想式、自省，极简风格并融合了当代流行音乐的元素，是本世纪极具代表性的作曲家之一。曾为多部电影配乐，如《闪亮人生》“Intouchables”，《齐瓦哥医生》等。

Ludovico Einaudi is one of the best contemporary composers in the world, so when I say that this new album is perhaps his strongest to date, that is saying a lot. Whereas the title track, "Time Lapse," possesses some of the intense edginess that permeates Einaudi's most recent album, "Nightbook," most of the other pieces represent a gentler, melodic approach more akin to his work in "I Giorni" or "Le Onde." (The track, "Burning," in particular contains a wave-like bass note pattern highly reminiscent of "Le Onde.") Although strictly not a piano solo album, piano definitely predominates, with the strings and occasional electronica providing a subtle accompaniment. The exceptions are "Underwood," where the violin (played gorgeously by Daniel Hope) supplies a heartrending melody played above slow and sparse piano notes, and "Experience" where the strings weave arpeggios of despair and longing. Together they speak of heartaches past, loss, and perhaps hope.

"Two Trees," "Life," "Experience," "Waterways," and "Time Lapse" are my favorite tracks on the album. And if that sounds like a high percentage of the total album, it's because the album is so strong. If I had to pick a "worst" track, it would be "Newton's Cradle," not because it is bad but because it has a dark and sometimes angry tone that requires repeated listening to appreciate.

Pianists reading this review will be happy to learn that Einaudi has released a book of solo piano sheet music arrangements of all these pieces. Most of the arrangements are highly similar, in not identical, to how they are played on the album, and most of them are quite manageable in terms of difficulty, easier on average than, say, the pieces in the Nightbook collection.

I buy physical copies of CDs that I am particularly invested in, because I like having the uncompressed sound files as opposed to being at the mercy of mp3 or similar compressed formats. However, for this album, I have both the physical CD as well as downloaded it from iTunes, for the compelling reason that the iTunes album contains an additional four bonus tracks not found on the physical CD.

One of these days Einaudi will be the household name here in the U.S. that he is in Europe. This album could very well be the one to accomplish this.
